The first re-design since 1980, Ford concentrated on smoother, softer design, perhaps looking into the future when trucks would make their way into more and more homes as a family vehicle. The new generation span lasted from 1997 to 2004 only undergoing minor changes in aesthetics and inside basics to accommodate extended and future crew cab models.
